Let’s Splash Into April 🌧

April 02, 2024

Hello April! Spring is here and the beauty of the season is ready to bloom. This month is also known for its April showers (that bring May flowers). Does that mean April is the rainiest month? Not so much, according to AccuWeather. April is actually the fifth wettest month nationally, with June receiving the most rainfall on average. However, April’s showers will play a vital role in jumpstarting the growing season.

In our busy lives, it’s easy to put everyone else’s needs before our own. If you find you’re struggling to meet your mental, physical, or emotional needs, use National Self-Care Day on April 5th as inspiration to refocus on yourself. Self-care is the act of intentionally taking care of oneself. Practicing self-care is like putting deposits into your “wellness account.” The more deposits you have, the more energy you can draw from when faced with stressful times. Here are some ideas for how you can include self-care as part of your daily routine:

  • Fuel your body with healthy foods, and don’t forget to stay hydrated.
  • Exercise regularly. A 30-minute walk or exercise class can boost your mood and give you a sense of accomplishment.
  • Prioritize sleep by setting up good habits, such as avoiding caffeine and digital devices before bedtime.
  • Spend time with friends and family. Accept that invite to meet for lunch or pick up the phone to call a special someone.
  • Reflect on the things in your life that bring you gratitude and jot them down in a journal.
  • Engage in activities that keep your mind sharp, such as puzzles or reading books.
  • Schedule time in your day to do nothing, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Self-care can look different for everyone—no one solution fits all. Check out this extensive list for more ways you can care for yourself.
